Stay safe first

Keep people, children and pets away from a moving gate. Do not walk through while it moves.
Do not open the motor housing. It holds mains voltage.
Never bypass, tape over or disconnect the safety beams.
Do not push a gate by hand unless the motor has been released.

What is your gate doing?

Pick your motor and the problem. You get the simple checks to try first, and when to call a technician.

1. Which motor do you have?

The brand name is usually printed on the motor cover and on the remote.

2. What is it doing?

Pick a motor and a problem above to see your checklist.

What to do: Clear anything in the path of the beams.
3 short beeps
The gate limits are not set.
What to do: Call a technician.

Every check for every problem, in one list

The gate does nothing at all

Check the power. Is the trip switch or plug for the motor switched on?
Check the battery in the remote, and try the wall button or keypad too.
Switch the power off at the trip switch for a few seconds, then switch it back on and try again.
Look at the warning lamp on top of the gate. If it flashes, count the flashes: the table below tells you what they mean.

When to call a technician: Call a technician if there is no sign of life with the power on. A blown fuse or a failed control board needs an installer.

The remote does nothing

Check whether the remote's batteries are flat. If the light on the remote stays off, replace them with a new pair.
If the light on the remote comes on but the gate does not move, the remote has probably not been paired with the motor, or has lost its pairing.
Try the wall button or keypad. If the gate moves, the motor is fine.

When to call a technician: Call a technician to pair the remote again if new batteries do not help.

It moves a little, then stops or reverses

Count the flashes of the warning lamp. Three flashes mean the motor's force limiter was triggered: the gate met extra friction.
Clear the track and the gate path, and check the gate rolls freely.
Two flashes mean a photocell (safety beam) was activated. Check nothing is blocking the beam units.

When to call a technician: Call a technician if the gate keeps stopping and the track and beams are clear.

It beeps or a light flashes

Nice motors signal with the warning lamp. Count the short flashes. The pattern repeats after a one-second pause.
Find your count in the table below and try the simple fix.

When to call a technician: Call a technician for one, four or eight flashes, or if a flash code comes back after you have tried the simple fix.

It struggles or stops in power cuts

If your gate has the standard Nice backup battery (the PS124), Nice says it gives about ten openings or closings when fully charged. That is not much.
After a power cut, give the battery time to recharge before you rely on it again.
If your gate stops in short power cuts, it probably has the standard small battery, or the battery is worn out.
Use the battery calculator below to see what to expect.

When to call a technician: Call a technician about a bigger battery kit if the gate cannot get through your power cuts.

It opens but will not close

Two flashes of the warning lamp mean a photocell (safety beam) was activated. Look for anything between the beam units: a branch, a plant, a parked car.
Check the beam units are clean and have not been knocked out of line.
Never bypass or disconnect the safety beams.

When to call a technician: Call a technician if the beams are clear and the gate still will not close.

The gate is stuck and I need to move it by hand

Keep people and pets clear of the gate.
Use the release key that came with the motor. Your installer should have shown you where it goes.
Move the gate by hand slowly. Do not force it.
Do not leave the gate released longer than you must. A released gate is not secure.

When to call a technician: No release key? Call WP Security. Forcing a gate can damage the drive.
